We are delighted to announce that Trevor Leighton is joining LIGMAN as Global Technical Director. Trevor has worked for nearly 25-years in the lighting industry and has garnered an advanced techno-commercial knowledge and experience working primarily within Europe, the Middle East, Australia/NZ and Asia.

Being actively involved in LED technology since the early days of LEDs and LED luminaire applications whilst at Osram in the early 2000s, he has grown a deep and detailed appreciation of every aspect of LED technology and controls.

At LIGMAN, Trevor will be working alongside our flourishing team of leading industry professionals with a strong focus on IoT and Smart Cities, as well as on our roadway, urban, façade and interior solutions.

LIGMAN MicroVOS™ (Micro Variable Optical System) is our unique technology enabling customers to specify specifically tailored optics for all fixtures where you see the MicroVOS™ logo.

Always available for these products are a number of standard codes for the most common micro-optics as offered in the product tables (for example Type-1, Type-2, Type-3, Type-4, Type-5, ME etc.)

However, if the need is for something more specific and unique to these, LIGMAN can offer custom optics to suit the precise need for project lighting distributions. with MicroVOS™ LIGMAN can combine optics to create custom solutions as well as offer additionally specialised optics if additional cut-off angles are desired, or have optics rotated 90, 180 or 270 degrees. The opportunities are near limitless.

Project – The National War Memorial, New Delhi, India

The National War Memorial near New Delhi India is spread over 40 acres. Recently inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister, it observes those lost in wars dating back to the 1940s.

WeBe Design Lab Architects won the competition in 2017 held for the design of the Memorial and the contractor Nagarjuna Construction Company Ltd, India was appointed soon after. Ligman were honoured to have been asked to provide the lighting for most the memorial, working with the Lighting Designer: AWA Lighting Designers. This included 560 RADO recessed fixtures, over 200 MIC projectors and 30 JET wall fixtures

The Memorial has five concentric circles, a central obelisk under which is an “eternal flame” representing the immortal soldier (amar jawan). The innermost structure of the memorial complex is called the Amar Chakra (Circle of Immortality). The structures surrounding are the Veerta Chakra (Circle of Bravery), the Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice) and the Rakshak Chakra (Circle of Protection).

Throughout February and March, LIGMAN set out on a series of worldwide presentations and events on the subject of lighting design. In February Martin Valentine, LIGMAN Global Design Director attended numerous events throughout New Zealand and Australia in association with Impressions Lighting, our partners in New Zealand and the IESANZ. Very well attended talks were given in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch on the subject of Human Centric Lighting using examples of his own work and research.

In Australia alongside our partners Efficient Lighting Systems he gave breakfast presentations in Sydney and Adelaide on the subject of historic façade lighting techniques as well as various other talks in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane at the beginning of March. Around the same time LIGMAN’s Business Development Director Emre Güneş attended IALD Enlighten Asia in Tokyo at which he gave a presentation on ‘How to grow a lighting design community from ground zero’ using examples of his journey within Turkey.

Martin Valentine moved onto the United States to work with LIGMAN USA at LEDucation in New York which has become a premier lighting design event in the US calendar. Recently made a member of IESNA, Martin went on to give a presentation to the Portland IES Chapter, as well as delivering papers in Boston, San Francisco., Los Angeles and Irvine to varied audiences of engineers, lighting designers and architects.
