LIGMAN joins Zhaga and DiiA as Community Members

As an essential part of LIGMAN’s drive to develop smart city solutions with connected luminaires, being members of important initiatives through consortia like Zhaga and the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance are critical.

LIGMAN is now a proud member of both organisations allowing interaction and overview of both technologies and ultimately a competitive edge by staying informed and adapting products to meet the growing demand for today’s smart cities.

The Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA) is an open, global consortium of lighting companies that aims to grow the market for lighting-control solutions based on Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) technology.  Having DALI 2.0 inside LIGMAN luminaires is already a reality along with allowing additional sensor inputs using the latest sockets based on the Zhaga Book 18 architecture.

Zhaga are a global lighting-industry organization that aim to standardise interfaces of components of LED luminaires, including LED light engines, LED modules, LED arrays, holders, electronic control gear (LED drivers) and connectivity fit systems.

These two leading organisations have joined forces to produce the next generation of LED luminaire systems, ZD4i.

LIGMAN joins Zhaga and DiiA as Community Members

Zhaga and DiiA unveiled their joint Zhaga-D4i certification program in May 2019, indicating plug-and-play interoperability of luminaires, sensors and communication nodes. Combining the expertise in the two organizations, the Zhaga-D4i certification program will enable smart, future-proof LED luminaires with IoT connectivity.

Initially, the focus is on outdoor lighting, but indoor solutions are also in development.

LIGMAN will be one of very early adopters of this new generation and will offer clients the most flexible solutions on the market.

Project – Sparkassen Arena DAV Climbing Center Illertissen

The 20th July 2019 in Illertissen, Germany saw the opening after a year of construction of the incredible Sparkassen Arena DAV Climbing Center. This International competition level climbing structure is around 20m high, has over 90 climbing routes on approximately 800 square meter climbing surface and an accompanying new clubhouse.

The skeletal structure forming the climbing wall

LIGMAN Germany delivered the entire lighting solution that met a specific and challenging client brief: A solution ensuring the structure meets World Cup level requirements of 300 Lux with high uniformity and no glare for either the climbers or belayer whom control the ropes and no mounting of fixtures allowed anywhere on the wall surfaces or the surface under the crown canopy.

Using 3-dimensional light calculation software, LIGMAN designed a installation with optimum positions, aiming angles and glare-shields using a system of ODESSA projectors and accessories in clusters on tailored columns around the structure. This system laterally illuminating the precisely calculated angled climbing surfaces and downward-aiming and crossing beams to minimise the shadows cast by the climbers themselves.

Supporting these clusters are a series of additional ODESSA spotlights mounted on the extremities of the crown canopy to cover the top of the structure with angled downlighting, which again minimises any shadow issues for climbers at the final stages of their ascents.

Project – Sparkassen Arena DAV Climbing Center Illertissen

The project comprises of 63 ODESSA projectors; comprising of clusters of 6 or 8 projectors on 6 custom poles and an additional 19 ODESSA floodlights mounted around the crown canopy, with in addition the LIGMAN VEKTOR family illuminating the new clubhouse.

The whole system is operated and adjustable via a custom DALI project lighting control system to allow the users to switch between leisure/training climbing, club level and international competition lighting levels, with the crown fixtures remaining on at 30% beyond climbing hours to provide some low-level ambient lighting for the park site.

The stunning project’s opening day saw a number of elite climbers, including a current Junior European Champion amongst the first of those to climb the wall, with the next European Championship due to be held at the venue this Autumn.
