Project Hightlight

“The new Sydenham Metro Station stands as a significant advancement within Sydney’s evolving transport network, delivering a modern, efficient, and visually cohesive interchange for the local community.”

The Sydenham Station upgrade represents a major milestone in the expansion of Sydney’s Metro network. As a key interchange connecting multiple transport modes, the new station has been designed to elevate both operational performance and the passenger experience. The result is a unified integration of architecture, engineering, and carefully considered lighting design.

Envisioned by Hassell in collaboration with Aurecon and GHD, the project places strong emphasis on openness, safety, and visual continuity. Clean architectural lines, contemporary materiality, and intuitive circulation create a space that is both efficient in function and refined in expression.

Lighting forms a fundamental component of this environment. In close partnership with Jadecross, LIGMAN delivered bespoke lighting solutions based on the TANGO family, engineered specifically for the station’s functional and aesthetic requirements. This included the customisation of the TANGO 37 – Post top luminaires with 400mm extended body lengths to ensure optimal light distribution while accommodating integral emergency gear.

Tailored versions were developed for both post-top and wall-mounted applications, with the wall luminaires incorporating specialised mounting bracket variations to ensure seamless architectural integration.

These custom-designed luminaires provide uniform illumination, enhance wayfinding, and reinforce the architectural rhythm across façade and concourse areas. The result is a lighting scheme that not only strengthens visibility and safety but also contributes to the station’s contemporary identity—setting a new benchmark for lighting within urban transit environments.
