“Barangaroo Metro Station in Sydney, Australia showcases contemporary architecture, enhanced by LIGMAN lighting that brings a modern, seamless atmosphere to the space.”
Barangaroo Metro Station is a key underground railway station in Sydney, Australia, developed to support the growing transport needs of the city’s central business district while seamlessly connecting commuters to the vibrant Barangaroo precinct. Set within a premium waterfront development, the station is more than a transport hub — it is a destination in its own right, inviting visitors to enjoy the surrounding harbourside atmosphere.
The station was delivered to help ease congestion at nearby transport interchanges, including Martin Place railway stationand Wynyard railway station. It also serves as a vital gateway for residents and visitors to Millers Point, Walsh Bay and Barangaroo.
Designed by Foster + Partners in collaboration with Architectus, the station reflects a refined architectural language that responds sensitively to its surroundings. Warm terrazzo flooring welcomes commuters across both levels, while more than 7,700 sandstone panels line the walls, creating a striking and memorable architectural identity.
Lighting plays a crucial role in shaping the overall environment. Webb delivered a practical yet progressive lighting solution that complements the station’s contemporary architecture. A selection of LIGMAN, JET surface exterior downlights provides high performance and robust illumination, enhancing the modern aesthetic along the concourse and extending seamlessly through to the platforms.
