Media Library ‘Third Place’, France – A contemporary public space where architecture, culture, and community converge.
Located in Châteauneuf-Grasse, France, the Media Library ‘Third Place’ was designed by architect Michel Benjamin as a modern cultural destination where learning, creativity, and social engagement come together. Conceived as more than a traditional library, the project provides flexible spaces that serve the evolving needs of the local community while maintaining a strong architectural identity.
As the building extends its role beyond daytime use, the lighting strategy became an important element in shaping the visitor experience after dark. The objective was to create a comfortable and inviting environment while preserving the clean architectural language of the project. Lighting was required to support circulation, enhance visual comfort, and contribute to a sense of safety without overwhelming the surrounding architecture.
To achieve these goals, LIGMAN luminaires including CINATI, LEEDS and NYBRO were integrated throughout the development. The selected solutions provide functional illumination while complementing the contemporary character of the site, helping visitors navigate the space comfortably and intuitively.
The result is a welcoming public destination that continues to serve the community long after sunset. Through the thoughtful integration of architecture and lighting, the Media Library ‘Third Place’ demonstrates how carefully considered public spaces can foster connection, learning, and engagement while maintaining a strong sense of place.
