Project Hightlight

“Illuminating Iceland’s most beautiful building.”

Ísafjörður Museum (Safnahúsið Ísafjörður) in Eyrartún, the old hospital, is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Iceland.

Built in 1924–1925 according to the designs of Guðjón Samúelsson, the then state building master, with an inauguration ceremony on June 17, 1925. It served as a hospital until 1989, when a new hospital was opened. Since 2003, it has served as a cultural center and is home to four museums: the Library, the Archives, the Photography Museum and the Ísafjörður Art Museum.

The municipality of Ísafjarðarbær (Ísafjarðar town) commissioned engineers ÓK raf ehf to illuminate the old hospital.

Pole mounted QUANTUM floodlights and projectors were selected to uniformilly illuminate the entire facade with RGBW. Bathing the historic building in colourful light, the cultural center is a beacon for the towns residents.
