New Bangkok Headquarters Joins Flagship Store

LIGMAN New Office

It has been a momentous couple of months for LIGMAN with the recent opening of both our Flagship Store and now new Office Headquarters Building in Bangkok, Thailand.

The new 5-floor headquarters will contain LIGMAN’s Management and Support departments including Administration, Sales Support, Customer Service and Design Support, as well as provide a unique new customer visitor experience with a dedicated floor providing a workshop/presentation suite, refreshment facilities and an outside showcase terrace affording views over the Capital.

The headquarters is located very close to LIGMAN’s new 1,500sqm Flagship Store, and adds another layer to our capability to fully showcase LIGMAN’s expanding range of quality indoor and outdoor luminaires, controls and solutions.

LIGMAN launches urban lighting ranges with occupancy sensing technology

LIGMAN Launches Urban Lighting
LIGMAN Launches Urban Lighting

The push to provide more sustainable lighting solutions goes far beyond the pure energy saving attributes of higher efficacy LED and other energy-efficient products. But often the main task of artificial lighting, i.e. to provide correct and appropriate visual environments to suit the task and situation, gets forgotten. The advent and design of controls too can often be purely for energy saving rather than designed to actually be advantageous to us or the environment and applied in a specific manner.

For external lighting poor controls and energy saving products have too often been installed to the detriment of users’ safety and wellbeing. But led by new legislation and guidance emanating from bodies such as the US Department of Energy and California Energy Commission, more emphasis is now being placed on applied controls to maximise energy savings whilst maintaining correct lighting suitable to occupation, traffic density, user task and, most importantly, applying common sense.

External columns and bollards provide localised pedestrian lighting for urban realm applications and can also serve as visual place-holders. Whilst often necessary for both security and wayfinding, the areas they serve can frequently be vacant for much of the evening and almost certainly during late night and the early morning hours. During those hours when spaces are unoccupied or infrequently used, energy is wasted on fully illuminated those spaces that actually only need significantly reduced lighting for the density and usage. However, switching circuits off entirely on basic timers can be counter-productive if just one person needs light for safe passage or security systems and public cannot see into their surround.

Therefore, providing external energy efficient LED fixtures with inbuilt occupancy sensors, positioned and pre-programmed to either provide an addressable on-off or dimmed performance has become something which benefits both clients and public alike.

LIGMAN now offers the option of integral sensors to a growing range of our column and bollard portfolio. These microwave sensors with LIGMAN’s superior optics, can achieve spacings up to around 30m (90feet) between columns and even 20m (60feet) for our bollards and still provide full detection. Sensors can be provided for either On/Off or dimming control and available for group operation together with adjustable threshold and time-delay settings for optimising energy saving and helping reduce the impact on environmental light pollution.

LIGMAN is the proud sponsor of darc room 2018 which will take place at the Nicholls & Clarke Building on Shoreditch High Street, in the middle of London’s design zone, during London Design Festival on 19-20 September 2018.

Describing itself as the ‘new kid on the trade show block’ darc room is returning for its second year, at a new venue and is organised by arc and darc magazines together with Light Collective. LIGMAN have a long association with arc magazine and we are very pleased to be involved in this exciting and different event in the London design calendar. We have also collaborated with Light Collective previously; for our 2018 Light & Building stand which was an outstanding success, so doubly excited to be immersed with them again in this curated, creative lighting exhibition for specifiers and designers.

LIRC Membership

LIRC Mebership
LIGMAN are delighted and proud to announce we have become members of the IALD/LIRC: The International Association of Lighting Designers / Lighting Industry Resource Council.

Within the LIRC there is a spirit of collaboration and, as all members, LIGMAN recognises and supports the importance of the Independent Lighting Design profession. LIRC members are committed to providing independent lighting designers with products and services that will help them realise their vision of effectively, creatively, and efficiently designed lighting for the built environment.

One of the activities of LIRC was the creation of the IALD/LIRC Guidelines for Specification Integrity. This pilot edition publication contains a number of checklists, tips and references that offer lighting designers of any experience level methods and techniques to protect specification integrity: i.e. the importance of maintaining the lighting designer’s original specification throughout the process of establishing a final project budget, retaining contractors and suppliers, and completing construction. It advocates how important it is to have a strong specification, to ensure that the finished project realises the original intent of the design. The Guidelines for Specification Integrity is designed to be a living document that over time incorporates thoughts, ideas and suggestions.

Another important direction for LIRC members is in response to the need to facilitate the educational development of Emerging Lighting Design Professionals: The Lighting Industry Resource Council is continuing its successful efforts to financially support designers within their first five years of on-the-job practice to attend IALD Enlighten Conferences.

This year, the IALD is hosting IALD Enlighten Americas in Seattle in October, followed in November by IALD Enlighten Europe in Barcelona, with the 2019 season starting in Tokyo in March with IALD Enlighten Asia.

LIGMAN will be present at many of these events to work with the LIRC, listen to the presentations, share knowledge and work closely with the lighting community. Indeed, both Martin Valentine and Emre Güneş; LIGMAN’s Global Design Director and Business Development Director respectively, will be in Barcelona for the Europe event.
