Project – A Tale of Two Sippys, Queensland, Australia

In 2019 Light in Design 2 were engaged by POMO Urban Architects to illuminate a public art installation and entry statement, commissioned by Cristian Dickson from The Sunshine Coast Council, for the Sippy Downs and Chancellor park area in Queensland, Australia.

The earliest residents of the Sunshine Coast were the indigenous peoples consisting of the Gubbi-Gubbi (Kabi-Kabi) and Wakka-Wakka people.
The name ‘Sippy’ is derived from the Aboriginal word Dhippi or Jippi, a name for ‘winged creatures’ and believed to be ‘a place of birds’.

Stephen Burton owner & creative director of POMO Urban Architects, based the design of the structure on the spreading wings of the Goshawk bird which is native to the area, respecting the heritage and identity of the location.

Rick Morrison of Light in Design 2 worked together with Stephen Burton with physical models and 3D renders to develop a lighting concept for this statement sculpture.

Utilising the LADOR 10° RGBW projectors from LIGMAN, a grazing light effect was achieved along each individual feather/fin throughout the structure. Controlled via DMX, colourful thematic scenes were developed based on the native birds of the region.

This unique project is an example of what can be achieved when the right combination of design, engineering and artistic inspiration are brought together.

Project – Résidence Seniors Angers, France

Lighting design office PROLUM LOIRE were tasked with providing lighting to the common areas of a Seniors Residence in Angers, France. Although only a modest solution was required, additional consideration was made for the elderly residents and their specific vision requirements.

Modern LIGMAN fittings were utilised throughout, PRAGUE bollards and MARTINI pole mounted luminaires. Both families of luminaires offer a wide range of beam angles, allowing for a consistent visual aesthetic during the day, whilst providing versatile lighting distribution in the evenings.

PRAGUE and MARTINI luminaires are also approved by the International Dark Sky Association for their full cut-off capabilities, reducing light trespass to the residents homes and glare to the residents themselves when entering or leaving the complex during night hours.

Let’s know about outdoor bollard lights, it can do more than illuminating

Light is the key to securing travel at night for aesthetic and safety reasons. Outdoor bollard lights are one source of light, however they have more advantages than just providing illumination. In this article, you will learn more about outdoor bollard lights.

Before that, you should know more about the kinds of light by How do you choose the luminaires for your projects? The luminaire can be categorized into 2 types. These are indoor luminaires and outdoor luminaires.

Outdoor bollard lights are an exterior luminaire. They are commonly used for lighting pathways, especially in public spaces which is important for pedestrians at night. Not only that, the outdoor bollard lights can protect you from being hit by a vehicle because it is made out of strong material and has corrosion resistance. Outdoor bollard lights can also decorate the garden or pathway. LIGMAN outdoor bollard lights provide both user-friendliness and wildlife-friendliness. The light beam from the bollard cannot reach directly to the human eyes, yet keeps shining efficiently. It is capable of stopping a 2.75-ton vehicle travelling at 50 km/h. The outdoor bollard lights are environmentally friendly and IDA-certified. IDA’s Fixture Seal of Approval program certifies outdoor lighting fixtures as being Dark Sky Friendly, ensuring they minimise glare while reducing light trespass and skyglow. That does not affect animals and wildlife in the surrounding environment.

We have created a variety of luminaires for a range of applications. If you need more ideas for your project, please contact us.
